[STREAM / INTERVIEW] xGADDAVÍRx - Putting The Barbwire Back Into Music

FEELING OUT OF PLACE

Hardly anybody has heard of them, let alone me. There's not much to write when it comes to introducing xGADDAVÍRx, this very piece you are reading or the streaming demo it revolves around. Let us avoid beating around the proverbial bush, here. A short interview follows. Therein you'll learn all you need right now regarding this here band. What is important here is the music. Music the believe has a place in this jittery mess called society. Icelandic society, to be exact. More on that later.

xGADDAVÍRx got together because your other bands and projects were unsatisfactory? This will be the assumption interview conducted from a negative disposition. Everything is wrong. Go!
xGADDAVÍRx did not get together because other projects were unsatisfactory. We are all in Snowed In and still making music with that band. xGADDAVÍRx originally got together for the sole purpose of partaking in the national battle of the bands(Músíktilraunir). We thought we had a chance at winning the token heavy band 2nd-3rd place prize. Even though we didn't get far in the competition, we still ended up pursuing xGADDAVÍRx afterwards. We did this because we ended up having so much fun making angrier music than we are used to writing.

With a new demo to be released in only few days or hours, what can we expect musically and lyrically? What sets you apart from the burgeoning local scene?
Musically, you can expect a hardcore EP with no influences from metal subgenres (like a lot of icelandic hardcore bands are). Our music is heavily influenced by west coast US bands such as Rotting Out, Trash Talk, and Suicidal Tendencies. But we have also taken some influence from Minor Threat, I Adapt, and even Turbonegro.
Lyrically, we deal with topics such as anger, going sober, small town gossip culture, and generally feeling out of place.

Can't wait to glean some Turbonegro from your stuff. Story has it you are from the village of Akranes.
Listen to "Harðir tímar kalla á hart áfengi" for a very Tubronegro-ish part. And yes, we are from Akranes.

I can't for the life of me remember any villagecore band right this minute. It's an Iceland anomaly for sure. Maybe Chino and Lost but that was centuries ago.
It definitely affected how our songs turned out as well as our lyrics. One of our songs, "Sorp", directly deals with how much we hate the gossip culture in our hometown, which I'm sure is something other small Icelandic towns have to deal with. In some ways, we try to try to capture the feel of a bad day in our hometown through our music. We also feel like the football and sailor toxic macho culture here kind of influences how our music sounds.
And to add to your list of villagecore bands, Akranes had a band called HARK a long long time ago. [Editor's note: I indeed reviewed HARK's demo many moons ago here].

Lastly. What can the shit-sticks that read this blog do to support xGADDAVÍRx?
Like us on facebook, download our record on bandcamp, buy our merch when we have some, stay in school, and go to our shows!
