New Carcass song, "Captive Bolt Pistol." Let's listen. Let's talk about this, guys.
New CARCASS song, "Captive Bolt Pistol" surfaced on youtube today and according to the uploader it is a rip from a V/A sampler that came with a German metal magazine Legacy.
First reaction: It's kinda odd hearing such technically proficient drumming (very un-Ken Owen) in a Carcass, curtesy of Dan Wilding (Trigger The Bloodshed, The Soulless, Aborted, Heaven Shall Burn). Or shall we say, normal modern death metal drumming style? It's too early to say if I miss Michael Amott at this point. That remains to be seen even though I'm inclined to miss him by default. But in the interest of eschewing hero worship I'll maintain that he's not missed in this song at least. And boy oh boy am I ecstatic hearing Bill Steer growling again. Fucking bad ass! Here's hoping he'll be all over these recording and with his own lines as well.
The over-all tone of the recordings is concise and "clean" as is the case with so many first tier extreme metal acts these days. Which isn't out of sorts, for Carcass paved they way in these matters with Heartwork (1993). But I was hoping for warmer, rawer tone, more dirge so to speak. I like this song. I'm still excited about the new Carcass LP, aptly named Surgical Steel (Uncharacteristically heavy metal of a title don't you think? But, yeah, I get the reference).
Apparently the youtube uploader ripped this from a V/A sampler that came with Germany's Legacy magazine.
