It's evident though that Tribulation has matured as a band. You can hear that right from the beginning of The Formulas of Death. It's a darker and bleaker album than The Horror. It makes you want to sit, listen and enjoy the music. There's not this endless feeling of wanting to jump into a moshpit, even though some songs might push your mind in that direction. There's also some prog influence on this album that The Horror certainly did not have.
While listening to the album I wondered if they got too high while recording in the studio or listened too much to The Doors at one point. To be honest, I'm not that fond of those space-y prog elements that some songs fade into, like "Wanderer in the Outer Darkness" (listen). But don't get me wrong, it's still a party album, only it comes with something extra. You can really hear that Tribulation put a lot of thought into most of the songs. If I needed to pick a favourite song from the album it would be "RĂ¥nda". Fucking fantastic song.
I don't think The Formulas of Death is as good as The Horror, but by no means does that indicate that it's a bad album. Not at all. It's a great album that gets better with each listen. So I encourage everyone to go buy this gem of an album and give it a spin or three. You won't be sorry. [Invictus Productions]
