| The "leak" heard 'round the world |
See, there was no announcement by the band or its label, Deathwish Inc. The story broke online: A pre-order of sorts had been set up on amazon (see), but with the track listing that's usually admitted with such items, there came 10 second sample from each song. I thought I'd struck gold! So, I listened to all of them with a brick in my stomach. Quickly thereafter, the samples got pulled down. Maybe those samples were a mistake? Or a clever ploy to incite the masses? It was nerve wreckingly pivotal while it lasted. I scribbled down some notes. But before you read those, you should read the exclusive interview, John Eich, main songwriter and guitarist of Modern Life Is War, gave Halifax Collect when news broke that the band was not only back together, but writing and recording new material. He gave poignant insight into why the band was back together and what had and hadn't changed since they left us so abruptly, after the daring Midnight In America [interview].

Upon realising these samples were some sort of a fluke I submitted that in an online forum that I''d wait for official song streams and the release itself. I'm old school. I live for waiting. But I can tell you, the album's intro song (if you can call it that) "Old Fears, New Frontiers," was super heavy and Jeff (vocals) sounded like Beast Man from Masters Of The Universe. Then there were moments throughout totally worthy of Witness and then bit of that eight note/ octave "drama" of My Love, My Way. And then there were dirty and sketchy moments such as the ones found on Midnight In America and vocal parts with Jeff sounding like on that album. Then there were parts from songs that sounded much more "involved" than in the past, featuring "longer riffs," i.e. more notes/chords and that sounded super exciting. So. In summation, Fever Hunting seems to combine a lot of what made Witness and Midnight In America so unique and audacious, topped off with the energy of My Love, My Way and then a boatload of new ideas and surprising levels of aggro explosions. It is certainly to be a very varied and dynamic release and I could tell that it'll be one of this years' best. Modern Life Is War is still the best. It's funny how unsurprising that fact is.
But the main thing here is, that it didn't sound like an album that will let people down. On the contrary. The band sounds like they never skipped a beat. New fanst: You're welcome. Explosive stuff.
