Rad Dad - Dispatches from the Frontiers of Fatherhood edited by Jeremy Adam Smith and Tomas Moniz

The civilized world our grandchildren will live in will be radically different from today. The western consumption levels are already creating future shortages on all planes of human life. Nothing we can do except prepare and ´strive to survive causing least suffering possible´ (a great album from Flux Of Pink Indians!!). That means raising our children aware. How do you do you that?
Rad Dad is a collection of short pieces and interviews, a best of from the zine (link), with male individuals who are active as feminists, punk rockers, radical journalists and social activists of various types - and who are fathers.
This is not a book about the beautiful moment of holding your baby for the first time but about the challenges of being aware and raising a child deep inside a culture of consumerism, stereotyping, nationalism, racism and patriarchy.
I read this slowly, one piece at a time, and I learned from it, though it can be quite American and some issues that were raised did not speak to me since I live in slightly different cultural groups. [PM Press]
