Typical me, complaining about the lack of exciting music and being all nostalgic and like "they don't make music like they used to" on the very day I first heard Dead In The Dirt. The song was "The Blaring Eye" [listen], Blind Hole's second track on a forum I subscribe to. I immediately found the band's Bandcamp site and absolutely loved what I heard.
It soon dawned on me that I may just be getting a bit old, or the music that I mostly listen to is kind of old. The last time (before Dead In The Dirt) I heard something really exciting in music was when I was introduced to Code Orange Kids (which I also highly recommend). In other words it is now perhaps dawning on me that rock really is a young man's (or woman's) game.
So, thank the Gods for the youth of America I guess. These guys are pissed off and finding their own way of venting their feelings. After doing some background research on Dead In The Dirt, I found out these guys are all vegan straight edge and aren't afraid to hold that banner up high. Maybe I like them a little bit more as people for this as I'm susceptible to their ideals. But we are talking about their music and I just love it. It has everything; great songwriting, great playing and vocals. For music this extreme it is a joy listening to it. Sometimes music of this nature gets tiring after a little while but this is not the case here.
I have one small gripe though and that is that I failed to procure the lyrics to this album before reviewing it so I can't really go into details about the messages they are trying to get across to us.*
The album goes by pretty fast, a lot of 30 second songs here but my favorites are "Will Is the War," "Cop," "The Blaring Eye," "One More Day," "The Pit of Me" and "Pitch Black Tomb."
I find here a ferocity that is very rare in today's music and I implore you to check it out. I'll be sitting in my room listening to this until you return and tell me what you think. [Southern Lord]

* Why scream your lungs to shreds if the words are not worth attaching to an email? This is not to slight the band - as it didn't submit the material for this review - but it's become a rarity to recieve promos that contain lyric sheets.
