Here I am listening to a new song from a band that changed my life when they came crashing during the
Beneath The Remains /
Arise era. A crash heard 'round the world. unarguably one of metal's most influential acts. You can say what you want about post Max era
Sepultura, but you can never say
Sepultura stood still, sat on their hands and watched idle as other, younger acts rushed by. They may not be the attraction they once were, but music seems to be the thing that binds and drives them (a rare thing amongst staple bands that paved the way), rather than dedication to popularity. Were it not, they would have tried to join a
wave or incorporate a sure-shot trend, much like they did, to a certain extent on
Roots. Debatable, yes, but you know what I'm getting at. Here's a band with integrity and a knack for independent thought, and as we all know -- going forward -- those sort of bands are hit and miss.

That said, "The Age Of The Atheist," hits home with me. I love the energy and forward momentum. Not an adventures piece of music, rather a kick ass one who's parts elevate each other and result in burst but not a ambiguous nor perplexing experiment. Imaginative drumming that let's off and starts hammering where needed. The additional percussion and Jr.'s surprisingly flourished add dimension to the song. And that
Prong-like part (2:15)... Yes please. The modus operandi eludes no one this time around. It's time to rage and pummel. Fight song.
The new album,
The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be The Heart is out late this month. Oh, and fuck you, I'm glad Ross Robinson is back. He's responsible for most of the non-band sounds and ideas that gave
Roots the exotic feel it held (1-0-1-0 riffs notwithstanding).
- Birkir Fjalar
EDIT (27 Oct.): It came to my attention that poorly ripped tracks have been uploaded on youtube. It's a curious listen and feel free to share your opinions on them, but don't make a final judgement until you hear those songs the way they were meant to be heard and in correct order!
