DEMON LUNG - The Hundredth Name

Demon Lung is one of those bands that I've heard of a handful of times but never bothered to check out. That is until I got the possibility to hear their new album with writing a review in mind. I checked a few seconds of one of their songs and instantly thought "Hell yes! Why haven‘t I listened to them before?". The Hundredth Name is their first full-length album.

As one would have it with stoner doom, this album is slow and heavy as it should be. There are also the faster parts, however it is a bit unusual to hear a double kicker in this genre, but it doesn't do any harm. If anything, it fits those parts, and they never forget the groove! The female-performed vocals are also good and work well for these Las Vegas-based doomsters. They are how ever by no means "yet another“ female fronted metal band, as they're doing their own thing, mixing tiny parts commonly heard in death metal, for example an occasional guitar squeel or the aforementioned double kick, to their own music. It's interesting to hear how they take elements from here in there and let them simmer in their own cauldron of doom and thus create something I feel is a bit unique.

There's something about stoner doom with female vocals that just works for me. As of now, Demon Lung, along with fellow female-fronted Windhand, are two of my favourite bands. [Candlelight]
