[adj.]; 1. without rough motion; still or nearly still: a calm sea. 2. not windy or stormy: a calm day. 3. free from excitement or passion; tranquil: a calm face; a calm manner. It is appropriate to append the meaning behind this Icelandic word for the sole reason of its obvious incongruity with the bands sound - in fact, their sound has more in common with the word 'disarray'.Logn is a band that hits the scene in increments. It comes in waves. A band more concerned with honing its skills and developing its ungodly racket that making an appearance. Indeed, a new album is close to being finalised. A collection of song making an almost thematic whole. The band wanted Halifax Collect to present the first glimpse into the band's future. It comes in the form of 'Í sporum annara' (eng. In other's shoe), a cacophony of flailing crashes and bangs that soar high and dig deep as it tears at one's ear drums. I got in touch with the guys. After the jump you'll find a quick conversation.

First thing to strike me is a clearer guitar tone and an abundance of crust...
Ægir: The clearer guitar tone is mostly thanks to our recording/mixing engineer, Kári. We've had trouble with the guitar sound in the past, but Kári wants it as clear as possible and somehow managed to make it more discernible than anyone has before (but still doesn't think it's clear enough). I think the crusty influence comes mostly from me (Ægir Sindri, drums) and Óðinn (bass), as we're huge crust fans and try to bring that in wherever we can, consciously or not...
One striking new "feature" is how the song is clearly set up as two parts, almost like a suite in in classical music. A bold move. Where did that come from?
Ægir: We tend to do that a lot, actually, but before we've decided to separate the parts, rather than keep them as one song as is the case here. Sometimes they're written as individual songs that we later realise might sound cool together, but I think this time we just wrote a bunch of riffs that we wanted to use somewhere (I seem to recall we had been wondering what to do with the beginning of the second part for a while before we wrote this song). Parts of it are written mostly by Sindri (guitar) while other parts I think just come from jamming around ideas that we had down, and somehow that lead us to this final result of two pretty distinctive parts that would hardly make sense on their own (at least the second part).
It also ushers in a new vocal approach for Fritz.
Ægir: Oh yeah, Fritz's vocal approach has developed a lot in line with our song-writing. No two releases are nearly the same, in terms of vocals.
This song is absolute madness. Í sporum annara, in who's shoes then?
Ægir: I'm fairly sure the song deals with something like trying to and not being able to provide sufficient comfort for close friends that have gone through hell, not having experienced anything like it himself. So he's wishing he was able to put himself in their shoes.
Fritz: Furthermore, it's about a bigger picture, the imbalance of the quality of life in general - being a white, straight male in one of the most peaceful countries in the world
All of us are suffering the post Eistnaflug (festival) blues. How was this year's experience for you?
Ægir: Eistnaflug is always a lot of fun. I think I haven't seen the same amount of variety as Saturday had to offer before at Eistnaflug - which is great. Great lineup. Logn decided to take a break from it this year, as we've been working on this album's material for a long time and kind of want to have something new and exciting before we play again.
Óðinn: Absolutely amazing, Grísalappalísa and Reykjavíkurdætur absolutely killed it. I sort of think you can't have an entirely bad experience, the environment and people are so much fun.
