[Track Premiere] WORLD NARCOSIS' Brumal Sleep " (interview)

World Narcosis is back, and the timing couldn't be better. There's to much brightness, too much sun. Summer needs to be gone, or so it seems.
Last time we checked in on the band (here) it was around the time they released a couple inconspicuous snippets into the internet either. Via youtube to be exact, of which I wrote "[...]there's something inherently unnerving and chilling about their bleak and intense abandon. The same can be said about their discography in its entirety up to this point. And it continues going that directions, into the tortured and manic black that is.
So without further ado, Halifax Collect is thrilled to give you the premiere of 'Brumal Sleep.'

As I've long been intrigued with the band's formation and development, I got in touch with Ægir (drums) to shed some light in the darkness.

World Narcosis seems to be pushing its own boundaries on these new recordings. Do you feel that way and could you maybe give us a little insight into the progression that has happened and how it comes out in the songs in your opinion?
Definitely. That's what we're all about, pushing our own boundaries. We keep blowing each other away and pushing ourselves to the furthest limits of our abilities.
I think we've come closer to finding our sound, along with becoming a hell of alot tighter performance-wise - and thus more capable in realising our ideas and playing what we want to play. I think this is one of the oldest songs off the 'new' record, written relatively shortly after the 7", but I'd say we've grown a lot since then, even just from the latest of the old songs (the 'Odder Outsider/Freedom Fighter' (listen)) to the oldest of the "new" ('Brumal Sleep', 'Low Mammon').

If you could sum up in your opinion what your new release will sound like and how it compares to and tops your debut seven inch.
Black metal-influenced (mostly in the guitar work) grindcore? With a little bit of just about everything thrown into the mix. Someone said it has a lot of screamo in it, which I think is very true (not the tumblr-screamo variety - Ed). More rage, more diversity, darker darkness, better blastbeats and a little bit more bass than before.

I've never heard screamo get this frightening and nihilistic. But that's just me.
Me neither, but I think there are some screamo-like elements in some of the material.

(Having heard the forthcoming album in its entirety, it rounded the context of this comment) There's a lot of anxious, nervous, panicky, bi-polar shit going on. More than before.
Absolutely. I think that stuff always been there, but definitely a lot more anxious this time around.

It's a maddening ordeal and not for the faint of heart! What does the near future hold for World Narcosis?
Just wait until you hear what comes next. Alongside this we've been working on an EP, which might get released around the same time. That stuff is *definitely* not for the faint of heart. It's a lot different from this stuff, but it's... Bleak. In an almost scary way. Release matters are still unclear, but as we're most likely releasing this on our own, a lot depends on financial matters. We'll try our best to get it out before a two-week European tour in November with a few Icelandic bands (Icelandic Metal Assault tour info)

Was there anything out of the ordinary that happened during the birth of this album?
Well, during one of the last vocal recording sessions, a terrified neighbour called the cops upon hearing the agonising screams from Viktor's (vocals) home. He thought something awful was going on, quite understandably.
This event actually found its way into Icelandic news media (link). The headline says, Actor terrifies neighbours in down town area. Brilliant. But it wasn't an act...
