Having been filmed two times into BBC miniseries that focus on the civilisation collapse (not apocalypse, modern humans are so self centered that it is common to see collapse of our civilisation called 'end of the world' while through the short history of homo sapiens living in cities, collapses happen all the time). The book itself is interesting in how it looks at how survivors react and what they attempt to build up to replace what was.
We have the survivalist group who instantly start forced pairing of couples to start repopulation. The split group who abhor this and try to build on christian values (that do not proof to be practical). You will also always get the militants who collect weapons in group paranoia and declare governance of all. According to this nicely written book the lasting ones are those who unite and utilize their various talents and politically experiment in democracy, and the ones that are quite happy being rid of government and decide for themselves what life is and how to live it.
