[BOOK] Explorers of the New Century by Magnus Mills

Magnus Mills is knows among bookworms for his sneaky black humour. His characters get stuck in social surroundings, drawn up in a minimalistic way, Kafkaesque somehow but it´s all their own doing.
Restraint of Beasts and Three to see the King are recommended but here is Explorers of the New Century: Two competing parties of explorers, travel over difficult territory to some point we don't know yet.
This is some time ago, they travel on foot, sleep in tents and travel with mules. Further information sinks in as the two journey's continue. We learn that their goal is "the furthest point from civilization" and that the "mules" are not really mules. They are people who do not want to adjust to civilization. The goal of the Explorers is to find a liveable piece of land, as far away from the civilized as possible, to get rid of "the mules" in a civilized way. But of course it goes wrong.
